Beitrag Livingston 0: 4 Celtic . 13 April 2005
CELTIC climbed back to the summit of the SPL last night as John Hartson rediscovered his scoring touch with a glorious hat-trick. The champions' top scorer had failed to find the net in his four previous matches but he stepped from the shadow of fellow-Welsh star Craig Bellamy and his timing couldn't have been better.

On Tuesday night Rangers were left to rue missed chances after losing out at Ibrox to Dundee United - who stay one point above Livingston with six games left.

Hartson, however, suffered no such problems as he stretched his tally for the season to 27 and helped slash Rangers' superiority on goal difference to a single strike.

Celtic fans were eager to see their heroes monopolise on Rangers' misfortunes.

But they were kept waiting because Hartson didn't bag his first goal until a minute before the break.

And if it hadn't been for a superb, one-handed save by David Marshall midway through the second half, Jason Dair would have struck an equaliser and the result might have been glaringly different.

However, with 15 minutes left an Alan Thompson corner was met by a powerful header from Hartson at the back post and Celtic were easing towards the top.

Then with five minutes left Hartson was barged down in the box. He demanded the ball before the usual penalty taker, Thompson and completed his journey from famine to feast.

Celtic could even afford the luxury of removing Chris Sutton and replacing him with Stephane Henchoz, doubtless saving the Englishman's battered and bruised limbs for even more demanding assignments still to come.

But Celtic's hardest task might be retaining the composure to better their nerve-ridden challengers from Ibrox over the distance left in their two-horse race They went about their business with determination

The points were well secured but Celtic were certainly not finished with the goalscoring and Stan Varga made it four after 88 minutes when he rammed home a Thompson cross
